French Bulldog Facts

Body temp

Frenchie's cannot regulate their body temperatures. Since Frenchie's have shorter snouts, they can overheat if overexerted in warmer environment. This can lead to serious complications and even death.

Even if your Frenchie seems like they’re having fun running around outside, it’s important to be extra cautious during warm weather. Increased body temperature from heat and exertion can result in a stroke. It is important to educate yourself on symptoms and  treatment. .

French bulldogs cannot swim unsupervised

French Bulldogs cannot swim by themselves as they have brachycephaly. Due to their short snouts they have to tilt their faces up very high to keep it out of the water. This tilted position, paired with their short legs and stocky build makes it very difficult to stay afloat.

You should only let a French Bulldog swim with a floatation device and someone giving support to the dog in the water. Theres always that person who claims their frenchie can but MOST cannot and its an unneccessary risk.

weight

French Bulldogs are a small breed dog with a smaller structure. Allowing your FB to become overweight can be dangerous. Overweight frenchies have higher chances of IVDD injury.

Can French Bulldogs Live Outside?

No, French Bulldogs should not live outside as they are inside dogs. Frenchies can’t live outside because they are a brachycephalic breed and cannot regulate their temperature. A FB would not survive as an outside dog..

French Bulldogs & Exercise

They do not require much exercise. This doesn’t mean the French Bulldog is lazy though, in fact – far from it. Yes, they love to cuddle up next to you and lounge around but they equally enjoy running around and playing zoomies. You want to be especially cautious to not overexert these dogs, especially in warm weather, but exercise/active playtime is still important to make sure they remain fit and healthy.

These are some important things to know about any Brachycephalic breed. Yes, caution needs to be taken on warmer days but otherwise Frenchies are just like any other dog. fun, playful and loving. Also they're natural entertainers.
